iPhone Mundanity

iPhone 12

The iPhone 12 was restored to its colorful self a few months ago from the “super-duper corona” plan-demic version (refer to the Notes post, “Black Screens Matter”). In addition, some of the benign system “apps” were also resurrected. However, location services, Siri, and iCloud syncing remain disabled.

There are no third-party “apps” installed, only three Safari extensions. All Net activity occurs in the Web browser. The extensions provide very aggressive blocking of advertisements and rogue tracking scripts. Third-party “apps” are only installed temporarily if there are functions not available on the associated Web sites. All “apps,” even system “apps,” are notorious for “calling home.” None of them can be trusted.

The internal Keychain utility is being used to store account login, password, and 2FA data. There was much “gnashing of teeth” prior to the decision to exploit the utility. However, the same conundrum would exist if third-party utilities were deployed. The best solution, of course, is to mummify as many on-line accounts as possible.

Certain system “apps” like Health, Find My, and Wallet cannot be uninstalled or disabled. At this time, there is no reason to trust or use those “apps” including inputting personal information.

The are many privacy and security concerns about Apple® and its policies. However, there is the belief that all measures have been taken to insure maximum privacy and security.
