Mausoleum 2021

Mainstays® Quartz Heater

A Mainstays® 1,500W quartz space heater was purchased at Walmart® for the clearance price of $13 (regular price in Hawai’i is $55). It’s twice as big as desired, but the price was right. Although the cold nights are pretty much over, the space heater will come in handy next year.

Why wasn’t the money spent on blankets instead? Why purchase a space heater that consumes electricity? So far, the one blanket in possession has not sufficed. The other blanket, donated by the Waikiki Community Center, is still in its original packaging. As far as electricity is concerned, it is covered in the rent.

Lots of time has now been expended on Spring cleaning. So much time has been spent in the mausoleum at the “old folks home” in Waikiki ever since the initial “lockdown, but cleaning was always minimal. Mind you, the place has always been spotless. However, there is a desire to return it to immaculate condition (or as close as possible).

In general, the retirement life-style has been usurped by the “super-duper corona” plan-demic. There are chores scheduled every single day, be it grooming, hygiene, cleaning, or shopping for food. No rest for the weary.

There will unlikely be a trek made to Kahala Mall on Saturnalia at the end of the year. There will be no donations made at the Goodwill kiosk. Instead, “stuff” is being donated at the “old folks home” by leaving it in the common areas. It’s a good exchange system for the senior citizens. That’s how a lovely Starbucks® mug was acquired for coffee time!

Miscellany: All of the episodes of “Star Trek: TNG” on PlutoTV appear to have been viewed. There is no desire to stream any other entertainment (term used loosely) venues. So, the time may be right to find a spartan (read: cheaper) wireless plan.

Addendum: A suspect was arrested on a homicide charge for the death of Kristen Smart, who was a student in 1996 at the old alma mater in Convalescent City. Being there at the time, there is a recollection of the incident and the resultant widespread fear that subsequently permeated the campus.
