Hawai’i Shit-O

Upon checking the venerable Post Offic mailbox in town earlier this week, the discovery was made that the State tax form booklet had not yet arrived. Another “senior moment,” of course, had blocked the realization that the pamphlet usually is delivered in January of the tax filing year. Obviously, the mail was placed in the wrong mailbox and subsequently discarded.

The electronic filing option was investigated. An actual on-line account with the State tax office was established to facilitate the process. However, further investigation revealed that s State tax returns cannot be electronically submitted unless the empire’s tax return is submitted simultaneously. Anyone who is only required to submit a State tax return is “shit out of luck.”

An attempt was made today to retrieve the State tax forms at the regional library after the usual Hawai’i Kai visit. Only two tax forms were available, both of which were needed. However, one other form was also needed and obviously not available. A stop at the Aina Haina regional library revealed that it has been closed down indefinitely for flood repairs.

The CarShare vehicle was fortunately returned on time. The State tax office was a “stone’s throw” from the bus stop across the highway from where the CarShare vehicle was parked. The walk to the State tax office proved cumbersome because the only entrance was way on the other side of the visible edifice (because of security requirements). The extended walk aggravated the mood of the situation. Yeah, all that for one lousy tax form. The whole experience was yet another example of the slow decay of the Hawai’i life-style.
