An Old Buddy Resurfaces

A reunion with Hoang, the formerly-homeless buddy, occurred yesterday by chance. Well over a year has elapsed since the last chance encounter. He is still residing at the “old folks home” in Wailua along the North Shore. He has also gone totally vegetarian, although he is still a little “chunky” for his size. All in all, he still pretty much the same with the same antics.

The formerly-homeless buddy mentioned that he passed up an opportunity to move to the “old folks home” in town. He mentioned that there was prostitution and drug dealing on the premises. He also mentioned that the problem also exists at the “old folks home” in Waialua. There is no reason to doubt his allegations. The situation in Hawai’i has “hit rock bottom.”

The formerly-homeless buddy usually makes the trek to town by bus at least once per week. An exchange of information on respective whereabouts will now insure more occasions to meet and chat.

Update: The formerly-homeless buddy apparently had undergone three major surgical procedures since he was last seen over a year ago. He had some kind of follow-up heart surgery, and removal of colon and lung tumors. Incidentally, the formerly-homeless buddy is a “ward of the State.”
